Although the universe is ablaze with more colours than the human eye can detect, we can also learn to see the world in new ways by returning to the roots of the art of photography, to the art of black and white, and other monochromes like sepia (and bi-level). This photo blog celebrates that spectrum of colours ranging from the darkest monochromes to the most brilliant whites, and everything in between.

Several things make this picture work for me. The nearly uniform dark sky settles my mind and lets it look elsewhere, to where there is movement. The overlapping curves of the rocks, the details of the rocks (when blown up), the shadows gently informing us of the points of erosion. This would be fascinating when shot with film/tripod and medium/large format. To me, it recalls earlier landscape studies from the f64 group.
